WHat are the symptons?
First of all, don't think you have McArdles syndrome if you sometimes experience pain when you exercise, as it could be another problem. Only 1 in 100000 are affected, and it is an inherited gene, your mother and father must have had the defective gene; McArdles syndrome. Most symptons of those with MrArdles happen from the ages of 20-30 years old, although those at childhood sometimes suffer weakness. The affected can be anyone, any gender, any race.
- The most common symptom is muscle weakness or pain when exercising too hard. When our body needs a lot of energy, it will use the reserves in muscle, but people with this disease cannot break down the reserves into energy.
- Usually their stamina is low. They are unable to exercise for long amounts of time.
- Another symptom of the McArdle Syndrome is burgundy coloured urine. This symptom is called myoglobinuria. It is lost myoglobin that is sent into the urine. It is a protein stored in muscles, but can be lost, and found in urine if muscles are damaged. People with McArdles syndrome can damage their muscles if exercising excessively, and find dark urine.
